Famous country singer Jana Kramer told the iHeart Radio Music Awards in Los Angeles on Monday how she was rocked by the Nashville school shooting and overcome with worry for her family and friends in Tennessee.

Kramer confirmed to People during an interview on the red carpet that her two young children, four-year-old Jace and seven-year-old Jolie were safe. “Their dad picked them up at school, and they’re good,” she said. Kramer’s children do not attend The Covenant School in Nashville, but Kramer’s family is close friends with several people who were inside the school at the time of the shooting. “People are like, ‘Who are you wearing?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t care. I want to go hug my kids right now,” Kramer said to People.

Three children and three adults were fatally shot by 28-year-old Audrey Hale, a former student of the school, according to NBC News. Kramer maintains close ties with the community that was affected by Monday’s shooting, and she was deeply concerned for the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

“I know a teacher that was there, and then we have some friends that have kids — but they’re safe — that went there,” Kramer said.

“A parent should never have to fear dropping their kid off at school and not knowing if they’re gonna pick them up,” Kramer said to People. (RELATED: A Peek At The Drool-Worthy Stunners From iHeart’s Red Carpet)

“It’s just not OK,” she said.

Kramer looked ahead to the future and expressed her wish for change amid the recent spike in gun violence.

“I’m a big believer in prayer. I’m a big believer in all those things. We need Jesus, yes, but we need action too,” she said to People.
