Newly released video footage shows Republican Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson clashing with police during an altercation outside a rodeo in July.

The incident unfolded when law enforcement officers detained Jackson, a physician to both former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, after he was asked to “step aside so EMS could respond to a medical emergency,” according to the Texas Tribune.

Police initially did not realize Jackson was trying to assist the victim.

Jackson’s office says the congressman was called to help with a medical emergency involving a teenage girl before first responders arrived, according to the Texas Tribune.

One trooper, identified as “Trooper Young,” claimed he repeatedly told Jackson to step aside with Jackson confronting the officer on the sidelines.

Video appears to show Jackson and Young arguing about the victim, with Jackson saying there were no EMS authorities on the scene while Young said there were. Young also said he asked Jackson not to put a gumball in the victims’ mouth but Jackson argued the victim had low blood sugar. Young disagrees with Jackson, disputing it before Jackson appears to lunge toward the trooper. “I’m gonna call the governor tomorrow and I’m gonna talk to him about this shit because this is fuckin’ ridiculous,” Jackson could be heard saying. “Fuckin’ ridiculous.”

At one point, Jackson is allegedly thrown to the ground and handcuffed with his face pushed down in the ground, according to the report.

“You are a fucking full-on dick! Jackson said as he was stood up after being thrown to the ground, according to the Texas Tribune. “You better recalculate, motherfucker!”

Jackson’s office has defended the elected official, saying he was prevented from providing medical care “due to overly aggressive and incompetent actions” by local officers, according to the Texas Tribune. Spokesperson Kate Lair reportedly said Jackson would not apologize for “sparing no effort to help in a medical emergency.”

Two witnesses said Jackson “was simply trying to help someone” and that Jackson did not get enough prior notice that he needed to back away from the patient.

“From our view, he never saw EMS,” one witness told the outlet. “He was away from the patient before they showed up on scene.”

The witnesses told the Texas Tribune the officers “barely missed the concrete” when they threw Jackson down.
