Because of course this happened in Miami.

In a Thursday night contest that had playoff implications for the Fish, the Miami Marlins hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers with plans to gain ground for a National League wild card spot. But things ended up being an utter disaster for the 305’s boys, with Los Angeles getting a blowout 10-0 win to increase their lead in the NL West.

It was an outright horrible night for the Marlins, with one play in particular being the perfect symbolism for the game.

In the top of the sixth inning, a Miami ball boy made an embarrassing gaffe by fielding a fair ball — not a foul ball, a fair ball — that Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman hit. The ball boy then decided to throw it into the grandstands to a fan. Afterwards, he proceeded to go to his chair and appeared to not give a single damn.

And then to make this scene even more funny, you had Marlins right fielder Jesús Sánchez staring in disbelief.

Man … what on earth happened to the Marlins this season?

I remember back in the summer when the Fish had the top spot in the NL Wild Card race, and since then, it’s been some horrendous baseball from Miami. And it pains me to say that, you guys know how much I love Magic City, but things have gotten so bad for this team — and now we’re having to deal with the rest of the country laughing at us. No wonder nobody in Miami wanted that stadium.
