Denise Richards admitted to being “incredibly naïve” about the seriousness of Charlie Sheen’s addiction issues when she first began dating him in 2001.
Richards, who was married to Sheen from 2002 to 2006, spoke with Bethenny Frankel during a recent episode of her “Just B” podcast, during which the “Starship Troopers” star said that she wouldn’t have become involved with the star if hadn’t been sober when they met.
“I wouldn’t have dated him if I met when he was in his addiction, deep into his addiction,” Richards said on the podcast.
Richards, who shares three children with Sheen, said he had been sober for four years when she began dating him, and at that point, she had never been exposed to his troubled side.
“People would ask me, ‘Oh, are you afraid he’s gonna relapse?'” she told Frankel.
“I didn’t know that person, I only knew who I met and that was a man who had been sober for four years, I didn’t judge him for his past,” Richards said. “He was sober and a completely different person — that’s who I met.”
The famous actress and OnlyFans star touched mentioned that while she was aware of Sheen’s troubled past, she didn’t take everything she had read about him to heart.
“We didn’t have social media, it was all the tabloids, obviously, I knew what was in the tabloids, I just knew bits and pieces, I didn’t know what was true, what’s not true,” Richards told Frankel. (RELATED: Denise Richards Slammed For ‘Sick’ OnlyFans Collaboration With Her Daughter)
