Jennifer Lopez has been cast to star in a feature adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” her first-ever role in a movie musical, Variety reported Thursday.

A source close to the production confirmed the big news, according to Variety. Lopez will dominate in the titular role, a fantasy woman named Aurora, in the musical said to be set in an Argentinian prison in 1981. She has not yet issued a public statement regarding her new project.

Lopez’s debut appearance in a project of this nature is locked in, but casting is not yet complete, according to Variety. The movie musical production team is currently seeking to fill the role of Molina, a character who “presents as an openly queer and effeminate gay man, but may be on the non-binary/trans femme spectrum,” Variety reported. Filming will reportedly take place in New Jersey, beginning in 2024.

“Kiss of the Spider Woman” will be written and directed by filmmaker Bill Condon, who was behind the successful productions of “Dreamgirls” and “Chicago,” according to Variety.

Lopez teased the new album by dropping a single, as well as a few teasers, on her social media page.
