Country music star Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing At A Time” album returned to the No. 1 spot Sunday shortly after he released a teaser track.

Wallen’s surprise 36-track album “One Thing At A Time” hit the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart for the 17th non-consecutive week, earning 61,000 equivalent album units in the second week of January. The album went No. 1 back in March 2023 and spent its first 12 weeks in the leading position before bouncing back and forth within the chart throughout the rest of the year.

On the same weekend, Wallen decided to tease fans with a clip from a potential upcoming song “I Guess,” which he shared on social media Saturday. It’s clearly a deeper country track, a step back to his roots after evolving the country sound throughout his last two albums.

It’s unclear whether there’s a connection between Wallen’s work making it back to No. 1 and the teaser track, but the timing is certainly interesting.

“Release that exactly how it is,” fellow country singer Parker McCollum commented on the post. “So good.” And he’s right. It is such a good song, even if it does tug at your heartstrings in a way only Wallen seems to be able to with young Americans. He’s only 30 years old, and most of his lyrics speak to his generation and those below, noting the evolution in modern love compared to the country songs of old. Someone could seriously write their Ph.D. dissertation on the difference between romantic relationships described by country singers throughout the late last century compared to Wallen’s contemporary analysis. He’s just that good.
