Officials Cancel La Liga Soccer Games After Massive Fire Kills Several People

Officials in Spain cancelled two La Liga soccer games after a massive fire ripped through the city of Valencia, killing at least four people and resulting in up to 15 others missing, according to multiple reports.

The two-block blaze tore through multiple apartment buildings in the city’s Campanar neighborhood, according to Emergències 112CV.

“Levante UD has requested La Liga to postpone the match corresponding to Matchday 28 of LaLiga that the Levante team will play against FC Andorra tomorrow,” Levante said in a statement. “This request is motivated by the tragic event that occurred yesterday afternoon in the capital of Túria after the fire of a building in the Campanar neighborhood.”

La Liga teams across the league will recognize the victims of the tragedy by observing a minute of silence before all matches this weekend, La Liga Extra reported.

Valencia will also fly its flags at half mast over the weekend. “In line with the three days of mourning declared in the Valencian Community, Valencia CF will leave the flags at half-mast in its facilities and has included a symbolic crepe in its avatars on social networks,” the team said in a statement.
