The gun safety class was for people seeking a concealed-firearm permit in Utah, some 1,500 miles away. Never mind that Mr. Roe has not been to Utah in 20 years and has no plans to visit anytime soon. Chicago’s City Council today approved a new ordinance on the possession of handguns that was proposed by Mayor Richard Daley just days after the Supreme Court ruled in McDonald v Chicago that an all-out ban on guns was unconstitutional. The measure was approved 45-0. (more)

The notice posted in the window of the Peet’s Coffee & Tea seemed out of place. It was from the Peet’s corporate office letting the public know about a policy that prohibits customers from carrying firearms. However, a closer look uncovered a bigger issue. The reason for the notice stems from a movement led by pro-gun groups, such as Opencarry.org, encouraging Americans to come out of the closet and exercise their right to carry a firearm.
