The latest episode of “The Outsider” on HBO was excellent.

We knew going into “Tear-Drinker” that things were only going to get more intense and crazy. It didn’t disappoint. (REVIEW: HBO’s New Series ‘The Outsider‘ Is Incredible)

Now, there are a ton of moving parts in this episode, and I can’t possibly focus on them all. So, I’m going to have to narrow it down and do my best to give it to you guys straight.

First, the episode heavily focuses on Ralph and his wife Jeannie. We dive a bit into the drama and chaos that has consumed their life since losing their son, which happened before we were ever introduced to them as characters.

In one of the most chilling moments of the series, the boogeyman, who also goes by several different names in the series, pays Jeannie a visit.

He tells her if Ralph doesn’t stop the investigation, then death awaits everybody. While informing Ralph of this visit, he quickly tries to convince her it was just a bad dream.

While it’s clear Ralph still isn’t fully sold on what’s happening, he’s certainly coming around to it. It’s clear they’re not dealing with a normal situation at all.

Jack also speaks with Ralph about the boogeyman coming for him and the burn on the back of his neck. Again, while the lead detective might not be totally sold on the boogeyman, he knows something is horribly off.

There’s also another great example of the boogeyman sending shockwaves of grief through the community in the closing moments involving a hostage situation.

I won’t ruin anything, but the situation makes you wonder how much time Jack has left on the show given the burn on the back of his neck.

As for Holly, she’s the only one who seems all in on the boogeyman and is slowly chipping away at the mystery.

All the way around, “Tear-Drinker,” which was released early because of the Super Bowl, was an outstanding episode of “The Outsider.”

I can’t wait to see what we get in the sixth episode. Ben Mendelsohn has put on an acting clinic through five episodes.

My guess is it’ll only get better from here!
