NBA Champion Boston Celtics guard Derrick White got slugged in the head during a brawl that erupted at a college football game between heated rivals Saturday, NBC Sports Boston reported.
White was rooting for his alma mater Colorado against Colorado State in Fort Collins during the third quarter when a fight broke out and a fan hit him in the head, knocking his hat off, according to NBC Sports Boston.
Video released by TMZ shows the moment that White confronts a fan who throws a backhanded right at his head. White then points and grabs at the man before he is restrained and held back. Numerous fans, including women, are then seen pushing and shoving in something resembling a rugby scrum as White yells at the guy who hit him from the edge of the fracas.
At one point, White appears to accidentally take down a young, bearded fan before helping him back to his feet. A man who looks like stadium security can be seen standing on a chair, pointing his fingers and bringing a semblance of order to the chaotic scene. Law enforcement officials were able to bring the fight to an end and White appeared to walk away uninjured, TMZ reported.
White and opposing fans got into a “verbal spat” during the second quarter that escalated into a physical altercation in the third quarter as White’s alma mater was having its way with Colorado State, a source told TMZ.

After the fight, Colorado cruised to a 28-9 victory, giving White the last laugh over rival Colorado State fans, NBC Sports Boston reported.

Celtics training camp begins Sept. 25 and White is expected to play a leading role in the NBA champions’ defense of their title, according to NBC Sports Boston.
