Officials at the University of Michigan are seeking to hire a new employee who will oversee the taxpayer-funded school’s “Bias Response Team” and “enact cultural appropriation prevention initiatives.”

The full-time employee will have the title of “bias incident prevention and response coordinator” and will bring home a starting salary between $46,000 and $57,000, according to a University of Michigan job posting initially spotted by Campus Reform.

The prestigious public school’s “bias incident prevention and response coordinator” will provide “direct support services to students of concern or in crisis,” investigate reports of bias incidents on campus and enact “cultural appropriation prevention initiatives.”

“Cultural appropriation” is seen as a very serious offense among social justice warriors on America’s college campuses. In a nutshell, it means borrowing elements from another culture without sufficient reverence and citation. In the worst cases, college radicals say, “cultural appropriation” is an extension of racism and even a form of genocide. The “bias incident prevention and response coordinator” will also manage the University of Michigan’s “bias prevention initiatives and Expect Respect initiatives.” These initiatives involve various departments and, especially, orientation programs for new students.

The new taxpayer-funded staffer will also assist in “divisional social justice initiatives.”

A salary ranging between $46,000 and $57,000 will put Michigan’s new “bias incident prevention and response coordinator” near or above the state of Michigan’s median household income, according to U.S. Census data.

Back in November, just after the 2016 presidential election, staffers at the University of Michigan Law School scheduled a post-presidential election event entitled “Post-election Self-care with Food and Play.”

“Join us for delicious and comforting food with opportunity to experience some stress-busting, self-care activities such as coloring sheets, play dough [sic], positive card-making, Legos, and bubbles with your fellow law students,” the description of the event announced — before school officials rescinded it in response to intense national mockery. The University of Michigan Law School’s embedded psychologist, Reena Sheth, was going to be the host of the “Self-care with Food and Play” event.

Also, the University of Michigan Law School employs an “embedded psychologist.” She appears to be a full-time employee of the taxpayer-funded school.

The total cost for a year of tuition at the public University of Michigan Law School is $54,684 for state residents — and $57,684 for out-of-state students. These amounts do not include housing, food or other expenses.

In the last few years, more than 230 American colleges and universities — 143 of them lavishly funded by taxpayers — have launched bias reporting systems encouraging students to report each other for incidents of offensive speech and other kinds of “bias.” (RELATED: The Daily Caller Presents: The 12 DUMBEST EVER ‘Bias Incidents’ On America’s College Campuses)

The speech and conduct of some 2.84 million students in the United States are subject to evaluation under bias reporting systems, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), a civil rights group.

The personnel who investigate student speech — usually called some variation of “bias response teams” — frequently includes law enforcement officials as well as school administrators and public relations staffers. Upon a finding of “guilty,” the teams of cops and bureaucrats summon students for hearings. These meetings are often intimidating and quasi-disciplinary. Their function, FIRE suggests, is to enforce a politically correct speech orthodoxy on campuses.
