A forklift ran over and killed a 62-year-old woman in a motel parking lot Monday in Florida, authorities say.

The unidentified woman was staying at the Dayton Beach Motel, according to Fox35. The forklift was reportedly delivering roofing materials and struck the woman while she was walking in the motel’s parking lot.

The motel is undergoing repair after it sustained damage from Hurricane Ian, Fox35 reported. The forklift driver allegedly did not see the woman and likely ran over her twice.

“The driver has told [police] that he was looking between the two loads – there was a small space between the two loads – and that he was looking there, and he never saw the pedestrian,” Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Department spokesman Michael Fowler told reporters. “Unfortunately, when somebody told him to stop, he backed up and most likely ran over her again.”

The woman was taken to Halifax Medical Center where she later died, Fox35 reported. (RELATED: Tampa Officer Runs Over Woman Sunbathing On The Beach)

“This was a tragic accident, and we will conduct a full investigation to determine what led to it,” Fowler said.

The investigation is ongoing, according to Fox35. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) initially classified the incident as a construction accident, the outlet reported.
