Say what you want about the cheating scandal, these boys are just one win away from a national championship.

On the second snap of overtime action, Michigan Wolverines running back Blake Corum punched in a 17-yard touchdown, leading “that team up north” to the national championship with an absolutely shocking 27-20 Rose Bowl victory Monday over No. 4 Alabama. The appearance is Michigan’s first in the College Football Playoff era.

In 110 total Rose Bowls, this game was only the second to go into overtime, and it was ended when Michigan‘s defense shut down Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe for no gain when he tried to sneak up the middle of the line during a fourth down play. The Crimson Tide were placed at the Michigan 3.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh and his 14-0 Wolverines will play in their first national championship game since the program did so in 1997, taking on the winner of the Texas/Washington contest. The title game is Jan. 8 in Houston.

Holy hell, I am absolutely stunned that Alabama actually lost … and that it was Michigan who beat them! Wow!

Nothing against the Wolverines, but after the Crimson Tide managed to find themselves in the College Football Playoff, I thought it was over and they were headed to yet another national championship. But nope! Michigan had other ideas! And it serves Alabama right for being part of the process of royally screwing Florida State out of the CFP. Somebody had to get karma in this game, and it just so happened to be the Tide as wild as that sounds. Crazy stuff.
