According to Adam Schefter, the cause of death is unknown at this time. Tuerk was a third round pick by the Chargers in 2016, but never had much of an NFL career after being a star for the Trojans.

Well, this is an absolute tragedy, and there’s no other way to put it. It’s always sad when someone passes away.
It’s especially sad when a young man who should be in the prime of his life passes away. I can’t think of many things worse than a young man dying.
It’s honestly a little jarring to me that Tuerk passed away at the age of 26. That’s younger than I am. His entire life should have been ahead of him, and it’s all over at the young age of 26.
If getting news like that doesn’t make you stop in your tracks and think about life, then I don’t know what will.
Just got some terrible news. Damn man, RIP Max Tuerk! Gone too soon.. ✌????✌????❤️????

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the entire Trojans community. Death is a pill that never gets easier to swallow, and young men aren’t supposed to pass away. It’s just a sad situation.
Heartbroken by the loss of Max Tuerk. Incredible person, teammate, and Trojan. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
