Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen Dominate At The AMAs

The country music genre was well represented at the American Music Awards on Sunday, with Morgan Wallen coming out on top with several awards. Taylor Swift won several accolades, both for the country and pop music genres.

Taylor Swift swept all six of the categories for which she was nominated, extending her tenure as the most awarded artist in the history of the American Music Awards with a total of 40 wins, according to AV Club. She took home the hardware for Favorite Female Pop Artist, Favorite Female Country Artist and also managed to snag the awards for Favorite Pop Album and Favorite Country Album for “Red, Taylor’s Version.”

Swift’s most prestigious accolade of the evening was her win as Artist of the Year.

Morgan Wallen had a lot to celebrate at the awards show as well. He took home the award for Favorite Male Country Artist, beating out Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson, Luke Combs and Walker Hayes, according to Music Mayhem Magazine.

Wallen also took home the award for Favorite Country Song for “Wasted On You,”  his sixth #1 hit overall and the fourth hit single from his record-breaking “Dangerous: The Double Album,” according to Music Mayhem Magazine.

Another big nod to country music came with Dan + Shay’s big win in the Favorite Country Duo or Group category. The duo also performed their hit single “You” live on the American Music Awards stage.(RELATED: )Taylor Swift Turned Down The Super Bowl For A Very Important Reason

Carrie Underwood impressed her fans by cascading down onto the stage after being suspended from the ceiling, in an epic performance of “Crazy Angels.” She freed herself of the safety apparatus and continued to sing live with her bare feet planted on the stage, during her high-energy performance.

Underwood was nominated in Best Female Country Artist and Best Country Album, but ultimately lost to Swift, according to iHeartRadio.
