The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrested famous boxer Deontay Wilder for possession of a concealed weapon Tuesday, TMZ reports.

Law enforcement pulled over the star boxer in Hollywood at about 1:15 a.m. for having illegally tinted windows on his Rolls-Royce and an obstructed license plate, according to TMZ. Police allegedly smelled marijuana during the traffic stop, which reportedly prompted them to search Wilder’s vehicle. They discovered marijuana and a 9mm gun in the car and brought the boxer into custody, TMZ reported.

Wilder was cooperative and polite throughout the ordeal, according to TMZ. The 37-year-old boxer was reportedly released on bond at 6:34 a.m.

Wilder broke his silence on the matter by posting a message to his Twitter account early Tuesday afternoon.

“I’d rather be safe than sorry. The End,” the boxer wrote on social media. (RELATED: REPORT: Music Producer Holds Intruder At Gunpoint Until Police Arrive)

Wilder was allegedly negotiating a heavyweight superfight against Anthony Joshua sometime in 2023, and it remains unclear whether Tuesday’s reported incident will impede the potential match-up.
