Nonsense! … the firing, that is.

A Florida high school football team — Jesuit High School in Tampa — will begin their postseason run with one less assistant on the coaching staff following his firing for apparently punching a player during a game, according to FOX 13 Tampa Bay.

Things went down Friday night when they were taking on rival Tampa Catholic, per FOX 13 Tampa Bay.

Footage shows a player sprinting off the field towards the sideline, and when he got there, a part-time assistant coach apparently clocked him on his helmet.

Matt Thompson, who is the head coach of Jesuit, has reportedly not yet commented on the matter. However, school president Rev. Richard Hermes, S.J., released a statement:

“I am writing to make you aware of an incident that occurred this past Friday night during the Jesuit home football game. Between plays on the field, one of our part-time assistant coaches struck a Jesuit player on the helmet as the player was coming off the field and onto the sideline,” the statement read in part.

“This behavior contradicts what the school stands for and is completely contrary to the expectation we have for coaches, moderators, and faculty members, who are to be role models for our students and mentors in their development as young men.”

“We have met with the coach and informed him that he will no longer be coaching Jesuit football or assisting the school in any other capacity. The mission of Jesuit is to provide a Christian formation and education for our students,” the statement continued, per FOX 13 Tampa Bay. (RELATED: Land Of The Free? And just like that, ladies and gentlemen, football coaches can no longer be football coaches … and the game just gets weaker and weaker. Why not prepare him for the University of Alabama rather than Soft Cake Community College?

It’s football, people. A sport of violence. Call me wacky, but … that’s just how this game works.
